Tasmania: Arriving at Devonport

Tasmania here we come!!!

We spent $123 per pax for the day sail ticket and $89 for bringing our ‘Koala’ over the Bass Strait as well. Phew! Hopefully we might land some casual farm jobs to repair the damage =)

We took Veloxin pills (anti sea sickness pills) before boarding the ferry, as the Bass Strait is known for it’s choppy ride, plus it’s a 9 hour day ride. Can’t afford to feel sick!

The lovely ANZAC biscuits made by David’s wife, Anne. It is so delicious, with a chewy texture and the aroma of rolled oats!

After nine hours of flattened butt ride, we reached Devonport, a city on the north of Tasmania. We stayed at Abel Tasman Caravan Park at East Devonport, which is very near to the ferry terminal. The city centre is located about 10 min drive from the caravan. It costs us $20 for unpowered site, has well equipped but old kitchen. That very night we met some Taiwanese backpackers who have been looking for jobs in Tasmania for two months but to no avail. Oh NO. . .

The next day, we went to the Devonport Information Centre to get some farm contacts. And our timing is just right, because it’s beginning of apple harvest season in March. So we found ourselves apple picking job about 15mins from where we stay. HURRAY!
